How to dispute a charge SoFi, in one paragraph: for a debit charge, log in to sofi.com, select your SoFi Checking and Savings account, open Transactions, and click “Report an issue” on the transaction — that is SoFi's own published debit route. For a credit card, SoFi publishes no dedicated tap-flow: report through SoFi Customer Support at 855-456-7634 and protect the FCBA clock with a written notice. Then know your clocks: on a credit card, the Fair Credit Billing Act requires a written billing-error notice within 60 days of the first bill showing the error; on a debit card, SoFi's own rule and Regulation E both require your notice within 60 days after the statement was sent. SoFi has two card products and this guide covers both, but their routes are different — pick the right one before you file. A SoFi debit card is the World Debit Mastercard tied to a SoFi Checking and Savings account, and it has a published online dispute route. A SoFi credit card is issued by SoFi Bank, N.A. pursuant to license by Mastercard, and SoFi publishes no dedicated credit-card dispute tap-flow for it. If your charge is on a different SoFi product line, this guide's debit route may not apply to you — check that product's own support pages for its own online window.
SoFi gives you routes that are not interchangeable:
Before you submit a debit dispute, check that your current address is on your profile: click your name in the top right corner of the page, then “My Profile,” and check the Personal Information tab. SoFi's own article lists that step, and a stale address can slow correspondence about your case.
SoFi's debit form is specific, so have the answers ready before you start: whether the card is in your possession or lost or stolen; whether you are the only one with access to the card and PIN; if someone else has access, whether you gave them permission and how they are related to you; and where you keep your PIN. Answer exactly — these answers route the case and, for fraud, decide whether the card is deactivated. If you state that a debit transaction is fraudulent, SoFi will deactivate the Checking and Savings debit card and number to prevent additional fraudulent activity, and will order you a new card. You can add additional fraudulent charges on the next screen, or skip that section if there are none, and you get a screen to verify the dispute information before you submit, plus a confirmation screen after.
On a SoFi credit card, two things run in parallel and they are not the same. The phone report starts SoFi's process. The written billing-error notice is what preserves your federal rights: under the Fair Credit Billing Act, it must reach SoFi within 60 days of when the first bill with the error was sent. Send it by certified mail with return receipt to the billing-inquiries address printed on your statement, and keep a copy. Once SoFi receives it, the law requires a written acknowledgment within 30 days and resolution within two billing cycles (no more than 90 days). Your fraud liability on a credit card is capped at $50 by the FCBA. One honest gap: SoFi publishes no credit-card $0-liability promise of its own that could be verified here, so do not rely on one — and do not trust any guide that shows a SoFi credit-card tap-flow, because no such flow was found on support.sofi.com.
One FCBA nuance for quality-of-goods claims (wrong, broken, or fake item): the purchase generally must be more than $50 and have occurred in your home state or within 100 miles of your billing address. If your purchase does not meet that test, file the standard billing-error path anyway — the same written notice, the same 60-day clock.
On a SoFi debit card, SoFi's own rule and federal law point at the same date. SoFi's fraud policy states you will not be held responsible for unauthorized or erroneous card transactions as long as you report them no later than 60 days after the first statement on which the problem or error occurred was made available — and its debit agreement warns that if you do not notify SoFi within 60 days after that statement was made available, SoFi may not be required to follow its error-resolution procedures. Regulation E sets the same 60-day mark. Report fraud immediately regardless, because your liability tier turns on speed: capped at $50 if you report within two business days of learning of the loss or theft, up to $500 if you report within 60 days of the statement, and potentially unlimited after that. Lost or stolen debit cards must be reported within 2 business days under SoFi's own policy.
Provisional credit is where debit beats credit: once you report an unauthorized debit transfer, SoFi has 10 business days to investigate under Regulation E. If the investigation runs longer, SoFi must provisionally credit your account for the disputed amount within those 10 business days so you can use the money while the investigation continues (up to 45 days). SoFi's own agreement adds that SoFi will tell you the results within 3 business days after completing its investigation, with a written explanation if it decides there was no error. If 10 business days pass with no credit and no decision, ask for the provisional credit in writing. Treat any credit as temporary until the case closes — if SoFi concludes no error occurred, it must explain in writing and the credit can be reversed.
SoFi's debit article publishes a 92-day figure and its fraud policy publishes a 60-day figure, and confusing them is the easiest way to lose a case. The 92-day figure is the online form's eligibility window, counted from the transaction: it decides only whether the “Report an issue” form accepts your dispute. The 60-day figure is the rights clock, counted from the statement: it decides whether SoFi must follow its error-resolution procedures and whether Regulation E protects you. A charge 80 days old can be inside the online window but past the 60-day statement clock if the statement went out early; a charge 100 days old can be outside the online window while the network window is still open. The 120-day figure is a third thing entirely: a Mastercard network norm, not SoFi-published, under which the issuer can file most dispute categories up to about 120 days from the transaction processing date. That means a dispute filed through SoFi after day 60 can still reach the merchant through the network window — file through SoFi and ask specifically whether your case can still be filed as a network dispute, and put the request in writing.
Can I dispute a pending SoFi charge online? No — SoFi's online form accepts only posted charges. Wait until it posts, then use the “Report an issue” option, or call 855-456-7634.
Does SoFi's Zero Liability cover every unauthorized charge? SoFi states you are covered by the Mastercard Zero Liability policy and will not be held responsible for unauthorized or erroneous debit card transactions as long as you report them no later than 60 days after the first statement on which the problem occurred was made available. Check your card agreement for the full terms rather than trusting any blog's exclusion list — and note that no equivalent credit-card $0-liability promise from SoFi could be verified here.
What happens to my debit card if I report fraud? SoFi will deactivate the Checking and Savings debit card and number to prevent additional fraudulent activity, and will order you a new card. Freeze the card in the app under “More” right away if you have not already.
Should I contact the merchant first? For billing problems (wrong amount, not received, not as described, kept billing), yes — contact the merchant first and keep the messages. For unauthorized charges, go straight to SoFi.
What if I am disputing more than five transactions? SoFi's online form covers five or fewer. For more, chat with one of SoFi's agents from inside your logged-in account, or call 855-456-7634.
