How to Dispute a TD Bank Charge

How to dispute a TD Bank charge, start to finish — and note the split that trips people up: for a debit card, TD's own US help lets you dispute online or in the TD app from the transaction in your Account Activity, or call 888-751-9000. For a credit card, TD's US pages show no online dispute route — you call 888-561-8861 and mail TD's Billing Dispute Form. TD publishes no dispute day-count of its own, so the clocks that bind you are federal: 60 days from the statement for both credit (FCBA) and debit (Reg E), plus a 120-day network window from the transaction. Enter your dates and get every clock that applies, each labeled by who sets it.

Map your TD Bank dispute

Private by design — everything runs in your browser.

Which TD Bank card is the charge on?
What went wrong with this charge?
The FCBA written-notice clock (credit) and the Reg E notice clock (debit) both count from the statement — not from when you noticed the charge.
The 120-day card-network filing window counts from the transaction date — a different start date from the 60-day statement clock.
For unauthorized debit charges, your federal liability tier ($50 vs $500) turns on how fast you report after learning of the loss — this lets the navigator show which tier you are in.

TD Bank's filing routes — and the clocks that actually bind you

TD Bank, N.A. is the US bank — not TD Canada Trust, whose EasyWeb pages and phone numbers show up in search results and do not apply here. If you hold a TD Bank US card, these are your routes:

RouteWho it is forHow
Online / app — Account ActivityDebit and ATM card disputesTD's own US help: submit a transaction dispute online or in the TD app by going into the transaction in your Account Activity. TD warns that not all transactions can be disputed online — if you see no dispute option, call instead.
By phone — the splitDebit vs creditDebit and ATM cards: 888-751-9000. Visa credit cards: 888-561-8861. Both numbers are on TD's own US fraud page. ATM cards are phone-only per TD's help.
In personDebit and ATM card disputesTD's own US help lists submitting a transaction dispute at a TD location alongside online and phone.
By mail — Billing Dispute FormCredit-card billing disputesTD Bank, N.A.'s own form goes to TD Bank, Customer Service, PO Box 100114, Columbia, SC 29202-3114 (fax 201-818-0981; form questions 800-252-2551). The form asks for return within 15 days, but states the binding FCBA rule: TD must hear from you within 60 days of the first billing statement showing the error.

The clocks, honestly labeled

TD's US help pages publish no dispute day-count of their own — so unlike some banks, there is no “TD says 60 days” number to quote. The binding clocks are federal law, plus one network norm:

ClockWho sets itThe rule
FCBA written notice (credit)Federal lawWritten billing-error notice within 60 days of the first bill showing the error; creditor must acknowledge in writing within 30 days and resolve within two billing cycles
Reg E error notice (debit)Federal lawError notice within 60 days after the statement is sent; the bank must investigate within 10 business days (provisional credit if it runs longer)
Network filing windowCard-network norm — not TD-publishedVisa/Mastercard frameworks let the issuer file most dispute categories up to about 120 days from the transaction processing date

The trap this tool exists to catch

Two traps, both from confusing the two TDs and the two clocks. First, the Canadian trap: TD Canada's pages recommend filing within 30 days and give different phone numbers — none of that applies to TD Bank US customers, and this tool ships none of it. Second, the 60-day trap: the 60-day figure appears twice and the two are not the same. On a credit card, the phone call starts TD's process, but the FCBA's written-notice requirement (the Billing Dispute Form, within 60 days of the first bill with the error) is what preserves your federal rights. And the 120-day network window is not TD-published at all — it is the issuer-facing window under card-network rules, which is why a dispute filed through TD after day 60 can still reach the merchant. General information only — not legal advice. TD Bank's terms change and your account agreement governs your dispute. Verify deadlines with TD Bank and, for federal rights, the FCBA and Regulation E texts themselves.
