What this calculator checks

Most "deadline" advice online quotes a single number. Reality has up to three clocks running at once — and the calculator checks all of them, then gives you the earliest:

  1. Card-network window — Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Discover each publish a filing window of up to 120 days. For goods or services never received, the window starts at the expected delivery date (capped at 540 days from the transaction).
  2. US federal window — the Fair Credit Billing Act (credit cards) and Reg E (debit cards) give you 60 days from your statement date to dispute in writing. Add your statement date in the calculator to include it.
  3. Reason-code exceptions — fraud-related disputes can carry shorter windows on some networks, so the calculator flags these as "file immediately."

Why not just read a guide?

Guides give you the rules; they can't do your date math, weigh your reason against the exceptions, or tell you which of the overlapping windows binds you. That's the gap this tool fills — in about a minute, with a printable result and a next-steps checklist.

Still unsure which network's rules apply?

Read the network-by-network breakdowns, then run your dates through the calculator above.
