eBay Buyer Dispute Route Checker

Your eBay order went wrong — but the order you file in matters more than the form you file on. eBay's own policy closes an open Money Back Guarantee case the moment a payment dispute is opened for the same transaction, so the bank track filed first is the eBay case thrown away. The order that keeps every track alive: eBay Money Back Guarantee first (report within 30 calendar days of the estimated or actual delivery date; the seller gets 3 business days to respond), PayPal or Venmo second, bank chargeback last — only after the eBay case closes or is denied. Enter your dates and get the route in order, with the deadline that actually binds you.

Map your eBay dispute

Private by design — everything runs in your browser.

What went wrong with this order?
How did you pay?
Is anything already filed for this order?
The 30-day Money Back Guarantee clock counts from this date — not from the order date and not from when you noticed the problem. Your order page shows the date that governs.
PayPal's 180-day window counts from the date you sent the payment. Leave blank unless you paid with PayPal.
At $750 or more including shipping and tax, signature confirmation is part of the delivery evidence eBay looks for — the checker flags it as evidence context.
For a not-as-described return, the longer of 30 days and the seller's stated window governs. Leave blank if the listing states no window.
How the order works

The clocks, honestly labeled

Every number below comes from eBay's own Money Back Guarantee policy or PayPal's own Buyer Protection program, read November 2, 2026. Where a number belongs to someone else's clock, it says so.

ClockWho sets itThe rule
Report / request a returneBay Money Back GuaranteeLatest 30 calendar days after the estimated or actual delivery date — for an item not received, and for a not-as-described return (or the seller's stated window, whichever is longer). Earliest for a missing item: once the estimated or actual delivery date has passed.
Seller responseeBay Money Back GuaranteeLatest 3 business days after your report or return request, with tracking, a delivery update, a solution or a refund.
Ask eBay to step ineBay Money Back GuaranteeEarliest 3 business days after your report; latest 21 business days after it. eBay may step in unasked if there is no valid tracking information.
Seller refund after a returneBay Money Back GuaranteeLatest 2 business days after the seller receives the returned item. The seller pays return shipping on a not-as-described return.
PayPal fallback — Item Not ReceivedPayPal Buyer ProtectionOpen within 180 days of the date you sent the payment. Escalate to a claim within 20 days after opening, or PayPal closes the dispute automatically.
PayPal fallback — Significantly Not as DescribedPayPal Buyer ProtectionOpen within 30 days of delivery or 180 days of payment, whichever is sooner. Same 20-day escalation rule.
Payment-dispute seller responseeBay seller protections — seller window, context onlyWhen a payment dispute is opened, the seller must respond within 5 calendar days of notification. This is shown so buyers understand the bank track moves fast once opened — it is not a buyer deadline and never buyer advice.

The trap this tool exists to catch

The one-track-only trap. eBay's Money Back Guarantee eligibility requires that you do not seek resolution for the same issue by another resolution method, and eBay's seller-protection pages state it as a hard rule: if a buyer opens a payment dispute, any open return requests or Money Back Guarantee cases for the same transaction are immediately closed. So the instinct to "file everywhere at once" destroys the fastest track you have. File eBay first, let it run, and open PayPal or the bank only after the eBay case closes or is denied — never in parallel, and never bank-first.

Why this tool does not cover every marketplace

This checker is eBay-only on purpose. The site's Marketplace Dispute Navigator covers Temu, Shein, AliExpress, Etsy, Depop and Vinted, and its own test suite records eBay as unsupported there — eBay's clocks and its one-track rule are different enough that folding eBay into that navigator would mislead. If your order is on one of those other marketplaces, use the Marketplace Dispute Navigator instead.

What this tool deliberately does not claim

No Venmo day-count: Venmo is an eligible eBay checkout method, but this build did not read Venmo's own dispute-timeframe page directly, so the checker gives the Venmo route with no number and tells you to confirm the window in Venmo's own terms. No bank day-count: card-network and issuer windows vary by issuer and card, so the checker tells you to ask your issuer for its deadline in writing rather than printing a number it cannot source to your order. No eBay phone number, no case-processing time, no refund-processing time and no win-rate claim: none is published on the buyer policy pages checked. Seller-protection detail (including the 5-calendar-day seller response and the dispute-fee rules) is merchant-side context only and is never presented as buyer advice.

The ladder step by step, the one-track trap explained, the $750 evidence line, the PayPal sooner-of rule worked through, and the special cases (event tickets, trading cards) — with the checker above the fold.
